Lifeline Direct (LLD) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lifeline Australia. LLD focuses on supporting the development and ongoing implementation of suicide prevention and community wellbeing programs in the regions which we operate while looking for opportunities to grow Lifeline’s services in geographical areas where they do not currently exist.
LLD encompasses Lifeline Centres in Hunter region, Central Coast, Eastern Suburbs-Bondi, New England North West, Northern NSW, Geelong and South West Victoria, Northern and Western Melbourne and Central Australia. Our specialised and targeted services operate nationally via a telehealth model.

A Crisis Supporter (CS) plays an integral role in keeping callers to Lifeline’s 13 11 14 crisis line safe, by assessing situations of distress, suicidal risk, assisting and intervening accordingly.
To become a telephone volunteer crisis supporter for Lifeline's 24-hour Crisis Support service - 13 11 14 - you'll need to undertake extensive training, make a commitment to shifts, and meet further selection criteria. This is to ensure you'll be confident, skilled, and able to provide support to Lifeline's callers in their time of emotional distress and crisis. This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity.

We run online information sessions to give a detailed overview of the role of a Crisis Support, what is involved in the training and provide an opportunity to ask questions.

What Training is involved to become a Crisis Supporter?
Lifeline's amazing and dedicated Crisis Supporter Volunteers mean no Australian need face their darkest moment alone. They are the heart of our organisation and we are ever grateful for their contribution to the Australian community. Approximately 3,500 trained individuals provide Lifeline’s crisis support services and respond to a wide range of people and issues.
All our CS’s are extensively trained through Lifeline’s Crisis Support Workplace Training (CSWT). This training equips the individual with all the skills and knowledge to provide short-term one-off support to people in crisis when they contact Lifeline as well as increasing their safety when thoughts of suicide are present, including providing pathways to further care and support as necessary.
Lifeline Australia is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 88036) registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Lifeline Centres provide training under the Lifeline Australia RTO and offers a nationally accredited training under the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Framework.
Attendance at all training dates is compulsory to complete the training. We run training courses right throughout the year, so please consider another training group if this one is not suitable.
